Each year during Literacy Week our school plans a few fun activities that get the students excited about reading and literacy! I’m including some of our flyers below. I use the website Piktochart to create most of my flyers because it is so easy to use and has a lot of options for text and graphics. I also like it because you can share it online and hyperlink data. For example, in our latest Literacy Week (2019) flyer pictured below, I hyperlinked out to research that I cited on the chart so if anyone was interested in seeing where I got the data from, they could read the research or news article.
Here are some of the activities we’ve done over the years that have been really fun!
- Book Character Parade
- Guest Readers (Favorite teachers, local police, the mayor, costumed book characters)
- Reading Buddies (Match grade levels or have Middle/High school come visit)
- Book Swap (Students bring in a gently used book and swap with classmates)
- Dress Up Days (Themes are matched with related books which we read on the morning news that day)
