I have loved my administration in all of my positions. However, one thing I realized is that they don’t actually know everything that I did during the school year in the library (activities) or behind the scenes (collection development, fund raising). Creating an annual report was a great way to sum up the year, brag on myself and our library, and show the progression from year to year. One of the things I was really trying to work on in my previous position as the media specialist at a PK-5th Title I elementary school was increasing non-fiction circulation. Since a lot of standardized testing relies on background knowledge, increasing non-fiction reading would hopefully increase students’ background knowledge on a variety of subjects. The annual report was a great way to track the increase in overall circulations, but especially non-fiction circulations over the years.
